Diary for Mahila Samakhya, 2006 / Pen and Ink

The theme for the diary was to discourage female feticide. It was created for the use of the field workers. The diary has a collection of very beautiful folk songs, stories and poems that talk about the importance of the girl child, attempting to set right the gender imbalance that is shockingly prevalent in Gujarat. Understanding the semantics of how rural people read and understand images played a crucial role and I tried to use several traditional motifs in these illustrations.
